Narrative in Virtual Reality/Mixed Reality and Augmented Reality

Title: AR Tech and Extinct Species

Concept Overview:

For this project, the learners will be able to bring extinct animals back to life through AR technology. All learners need is a phone with a camera and our app. They can select the species they are interested in to study from the main page and interact with it by observing its behaviors, including how the animals look in real life and how they hunt and eat, etc.

Concept Description: ( User’s Needs and How Can We Help)

From my perspective, the project can work with different scientific museums and introduce extinct species to the public. We can help museums expand the information they have collected for years into digital 3D models, which are realistic and visually appealing to express the beauty of nature while teaching people the history behind the animals. According to the multimedia learning principle, people learn better with images and words than alone. In addition, according to meaningful learning theory, engaging in the learning activity allows learners to build connections from their previous knowledge and experience with the new information. Therefore, it would be a meaningful learning experience for learners from home or anywhere else. Taking their phone out, interacting with the 3D models, and learning the fun facts about the animals through AR techniques is ideal and exciting.

Target Audience:

It would be an interactive learning experience allowing students to play with their parents. Therefore there would be no limitation regarding age. However, it requires some skills in using phones and technology, which may be difficult for some audiences.

Learning Goals:

The learners will be able to interact with AR anywhere they demand and learn fun facts about extinct species.

Learning Theory:

  • Meaningful Learning Theory

  • Dual Coding

  • Multiple Learning Principle

  • Constructivism
